Himachal Pradesh Weekly Current Affairs:

Garra simbalbaraensis, a new freshwater fish variety found in Himachal Pradesh:

  • Garra simbalbaraensis was found in Himachal Pradesh’s Simbalbara river in Sirmour district of Himachal Pradesh
  • Fish, measuring less than seven centimetres, are hill stream fauna and are equipped with special morphological features to suit rapid water flow.
  • Garra simbalbaraensis (measuring 69 mm standard length without caudal fin) has a yellowish-grey colour fading ventrally.
  • Garra simbalbaraensis takes its name from the Simbalbara river.
  • Garra simbalbaraensis has a prominent unilobed and rounded proboscis with tubercles that help the fish in manoeuvrability.

Himachal conferred with three national awards under Poshan Abhiyan:

  • Himachal Pradesh was selected for three national awards including convergence and community mobilization, ICDS-CAS and overall excellence in Poshan Abhiyan.
  • The state has received total award money of Rs. 2.25 crore for these awards.
  • The convergence awards for best performance of Anganwari Kendras were given to Mandi and Kalpa in Kinnaur district whereas Shimla Urban Block has been conferred block-level leadership and convergence award in the state under the Poshan Abhiyan.
  • Solan district won the best district award in the state for Poshan Abhiyan.

7th Economic Census launched in the state:

  • Seventh Economic Census (7th EC)  being conducted by the Ministry of Statistics and Programme Implementation (MoSPI) in 2019 to provide disaggregated information on various operational and structural aspects of all economic establishments in the country.
  • The Economic Census provides valuable insights into a geographical spread, clusters of economic activities, ownership pattern, persons engaged etc. of the establishments with or without fixed premises engaged in economic activity.
  • For the conduct of 7th EC, MoSPI has partnered with CSC e-Governance Services India Limited under the Ministry of Electronics and Information Technology as the implementing agency.
  • The enumerators and supervisors engaged by CSC have been trained to collect data on a mobile application developed for data capture, validation, report generation and dissemination.

WCD Directorate gets Skoch Order-of-Merit Award:

  • The Women and Child Development Directorate under the State Social Justice and Empowerment Department has been conferred with the Skoch-Order-of Merit Award- 2019 for its outstanding performance in skill development and providing employment avenues to the orphan and abandoned children living in the childcare institutes of the state.
  • The department was also presented with Skoch Award for Governance (Bronze) on this occasion.

Centre releases Rs. 1660 crore to Himachal under CAMPA:

  • The government of India has released Rs. 1660 crore pending funds under CAMPA to the state which would be spent on various forestry activities in the state.
  • Forest Minister of HP requested for bringing Himachal Pradesh under Regional Office, Chandigarh of the Union Ministry of Environment, Forest and Climate Change instead of regional office Dehradun for according forest clearance under Forests Clearances Act, 1980 to expedite approval of development projects.

Poshan Maah to focus on expanding the outreach of health and nutritional services:

  • The month of September 2019 will be celebrated as ‘Poshan Maah” (Nutrition Month) as a part of Jan Andolan under Poshan Abhiyan in the country to address the malnutrition challenges and sensitize the people regarding the importance of holistic nutrition.
  • Poshan Maah aims to improve coverage of beneficiaries with the health and nutrition awareness campaign by undertaking innovative initiatives like enhancing ‘POSHAN Bhagidari‘ to enhance community ownership towards programme and Anganwari Kendras, promoting ‘Poshan Par Charcha‘ for dialogue on nutrition and promote behavioral change and promoting ‘POSHAN Choupal‘ at village level on health and nutrition-related issues.
  • This year, the main focus would be on five critical components including the first 1000 days of a child, Anemia, Diarrhea, hand wash, and sanitation and Poshtik Aahar (wholesome meal with diet diversity) at the grass-root level.
  • Poshan Maah intends to increase the visibility of nutrition among mothers of young children, adolescent girls, pregnant and lactating women.
  • The Women and Child Development department will promote Jan Andolan activities in urban areas with an effort to expand the outreach of health and nutritional services among villagers and migratory populations.
