Himachal Pradesh Weekly Current Affairs:

Rohtang Tunnel named as ‘Atal Tunnel’:

  • Rohtang Tunnel was named as  ‘Atal Tunnel’ after the name of former Prime Minister late Atal Bihari Vajpayee,  as a mark of respect to the great leader, who had laid the foundation stone of this tunnel in 2003.
  • This tunnel would not only provide all-weather connectivity to the landlocked Lahaul-Spiti district but also attract tourists to this beautiful district.
  • This tunnel would also go a long way from a strategic point of view.

Financial assistance enhanced for families under Pradhan Mantri Awas Yojna–Gramin and Mukhya Mantri Awas Yojna:

  • The Cabinet gave its consent to enhance the financial assistance being given to the eligible families under Pradhan Mantri Awas Yojna–Gramin and Mukhya Mantri Awas Yojna by Rs. 20,000.
  • Now the beneficiaries will be getting Rs. 1.50 lakh instead of Rs. 1.30 lakh.
  • Similarly, it also decided to increase the amount under Mukhya Mantri Awas Murammat Yojna from existing Rs. 25,000 to Rs. 35000.

The Cabinet gave its approval to link 10 market yards with e-NAM:

  • The Cabinet its approval to link 10 market yards with e-NAM (Electronic National Agriculture Market) to ensure remunerative prices to the farmers of their produce.
  • With this, 29 market yards (Subzi Mandi) have been linked with this facility.
  • This would provide the farmers with a common online market platform for sale of their produce besides providing them better price through transparent auction process along with timely online payment.

NITI Aayog ranks Himachal second in SDG Index:

  • Himachal Pradesh has been ranked as the second-best State of the country after Kerala in the list of states for achieving the targets under the Sustainable Development Goals Index 2019-20.
  • NITI Aayog has released the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) Index for the year 2019-20.
  • As per the report the State has performed well in water and sanitation, power, industry and other social services sector such as health, education, nutrition and gender equality.
  • The SDG Index, launched last year, ranked states based on 16 goals across 54 targets spread among 100 indicators based on national identified indicators. The first report just had 13 goals and 39 indicators.

Anil Khachi appointed new Chief Secretary:

  • The state government has appointed Anil Kumar Khachi, the 1986 batch IAS officer as the new Chief Secretary of Himachal Pradesh.
  • Anil Khachi was earlier holding the charge of Additional Chief Secretary Finance, Planning, Statics and 20 point programme.
