Himachal Pradesh Weekly Current Affairs:

State Planning Board approves Rs. 7900 crore annual plan for year 2020-21:

  • The State Planning Board has approved Rs. 7900 crore annual plan for the year 2020-21, which is Rs.800 crore more than 2019-20 with about 11 percent increase.
  • The social services sector has been accorded priority by allocating Rs. 3487.24 crore, which was 44.14 percent of the total annual plan.
  • The transport and communication sector has been allocated Rs. 1394.89 crore, whereas agriculture and allied activities had been allotted Rs. 974.29 crore.
  • Similarly, irrigation and flood control has been proposed Rs. 508.05 crore, while Rs. 499.05 crore has been earmarked for the energy sector.

GoI recommended Rs 3184 crore for the power sector in Himachal Pradesh:

  • The government of India recommended a financing facility worth Rs 3184 crore through World Bank for the project namely Himachal Hydro Power and Renewable Power Sector Development Project.
  • This financing would come in the pattern of a 90 percent grant and a 10 percent loan to the Government of Himachal Pradesh.
  • The project aims at the holistic development of the power sector of the state through investment in all three segments of power sector i.e. Generation, Transmission and Distribution.
  • On the generation part, funding of Rs 1600 crore will come to the ongoing Shongtong Karchham HEP 450 MW. This is an ambitious project of HPPCL which will generate energy at a very competitive rate of Rs 6.3 crore per MW against the normal average cost of Rs 10 crore per MW. The project once commissioned would earn revenue of Rs 500 crore per annum to the state exchequer.
  • This is by far the biggest project taken up by state government without the participation of any Central Public Sector undertaking and was facing financial hardships due to non-availability of adequate funds.
  • Transmission part-funding amounting to Rs 534.72 crore would come for strengthening Extra  High  Voltage transmission (EHV) network in different parts of the state.
  • The distribution system will get a funding of Rs 937 crore and would be used towards automation and strengthening of the distribution network in 13 different towns of Himachal namely Solan, Baddi, Nalagarh, Nahan, Paonta Sahib, Mandi, Sundernagar, Bilaspur, Kullu, Manali, Una, Parwanoo and Hamirpur.
