Great saints of the world have always preached that simple living and high thinking should be the golden principle of life. Most of the great men in the annals of history have practiced this principle and achieved greatness in all its glory. The importance of simple living has been emphasized by all spiritual thinkers. This advice is based on the fact that human wants are limitless once they are given a long hope. If psychologically encouraged these want to multiply one after another. They make the man a selfish slave to material acquisition. They divert the attention of the man from high thinking and bring him down to the narrow circle of worldly pursuits. They affect adversely his devotion and concentration to higher ideals of life which mostly include service of fellow human beings. Modern thinkers have come to feel that elaborate living is more conducive to the service of humanity than simple living.

Mahatma Gandhi, Pandit Nehru, Abraham Lincoln, Einstein, and Bertrand Russell have proved that simple living is a better way of achieving greatness if it means service to society. These personalities led unsophisticated lives, yet they became the idols of people. They emancipated the thinking and living of the common people with their strong convictions of truth, love for human beings and the good of society. They let people to great achievements.

Q3. Read the following passage and answer the questions that follow:

Since the world has become industrialized, there has been an increase in the number of animal species that have either become extinct or have neared extinction. Bengal Tiger, for instance, which once roamed the Jungle in vast numbers, now number only 2,300 and by the year 2025, their population is estimated to be down to zero. What is alarming about the case of Bengal tiger is that this extension will have been caused almost entirely by poachers who according to some sources, are not interested in material gain but in personal gratification. This is an example of callousness that is part of what is causing the problem of extinction. Animals like the Bengal tiger, as well as, those belonging to other endangered species, are a valuable part of the world ecosystem. International laws protecting these animals must be enacted to ensure their survival and the survival of our planet. Countries around the world have begun to deal with the problem in various ways. Some countries, in order to circumvent the problem, have allocated a large amounts of land to animal reserves. They then charge admission fees to help defray the cost of maintaining the parks, and they often must also depend on the world organization for support. With the money get, they can invest in equipment and patrols to protect the animals. Another solution that is an attempt to stem the tide of animal extension is an international boycott of products made from endangered species. This seems fairly effective, but it will not, by itself, prevent animals from being hunted and killed
