State Government giving special emphasis to empower women

The role of women is important in building an inclusive society. Similarly, physical and intellectual development of children is also essential in building a healthy society. State Government is giving special emphasis to all these aspects and special schemes have been launched to ensure active participation of women in development and social activities and to empower them.

Under Beti Hai Anmol Yojana, the lump sum assistance grant to the girl child born in the BPL family has been increased from Rs. 10,000 to Rs. 12,000. Under Mother Teresa Asahaya Matri Sambal Yojana, the amount of assistance given for the upbringing of two children has been increased from Rs. 4000 per child per year to Rs. 6000. As many as 45,820 children have been benefitted under this scheme during last two years.

Under Mukhya Mantri Kanyadan Yojana, the assistance grant for the marriage of destitute girls was increased from Rs. 40000 to Rs. 51000 which had benefited 8206 girls.

Under Mahila Swarojgar Sahayata Yojana, women with an annual income of less than Rs. 35000 are being provided Rs. 5000 to enhance their income.

Himachal Pradesh has received awards in five categories at the national level for outstanding work under Poshan Abhiyan, which was initiated to promote the concept of healthy mothers and healthy children. These awards have been given for individual work, joint efforts at the village level, village level coordination committee, for excellent work at the district level and leadership and for better publicity through social media at the State level.

Saksham Gudiya Board was constituted with an aim to empower girls and adolescent girls in the State and to curb the crimes against them.

Sashakt Mahila Yojana was implemented in the State with the aim of making adolescent girls and women between 11 years and 45 years aware of their rights and developing their skills and connecting them with economic activities.

Under this scheme, 93 Mahila Shakti Kendra were established in all 3226 Panchayats and Municipal Corporations and Nagar Panchayats during last two years.

Himachal was awarded the Best State Award in the year 2018 for best work in the Pradhan Mantri Matri Vandana Yojana, which was launched to provide incentives to pregnant women and lactating mothers. Under this scheme, beneficiary women are provided a cash incentive of Rs. 5000 in three installments. Since January 2018, an amount of Rs. 48.57 crore has been deposited in the accounts of 1, 15,387 beneficiaries.

Mahila Kalyan Board has been reconstituted under the chairmanship of the Chief Minister to suggest policies for the empowerment and protection of women.

On average 79,000 children are being provided informal pre-school education at 18925 Anganwadi centers operated in the State. Seven crore rupees were spent for construction and up-gradation of 70 Anganwadi buildings in the last two years.

Under the Mukhya Mantri Bal Uddhaar Yojana, an annual scholarship of Rs. 10000 was provided in the financial year 2019-20 to the children of Bal Evam Balika Ashrams, who have secured the first two positions in the 2nd class to 8th class.

After Care Homes were set up in the financial year 2019-20 at Balika Ashram Tutikandi and Arki for such children of ashrams, who do not have any place to stay when they leave the Ashram.
