Syllabus for the post of Assistant Director, Forensic Psychology (Lie Detector) in H.P. State Forensic Science Laboratory, Home Department, H.P.

Unit-I

General Forensic Science-Definition, History and Development of Forensic Science, Principal and scope of Forensic Science, Crime Scene Management, Type of Evidences, Chain of Custody, Integrity of Evidence, Report writing, Expert testimony and related laws, concept of Quality Management System, Laboratory Information Management Systems, Research Methodology, Plagiarism, Ethics.

Unit-II

Cognitive Psychology:- Psychology, Attention, Sensation & Perception, Memory, Cognition, Problem Solving and Creativity etc.

Origin and Development of the behavior:- Genes and their role, constitutional and endocrinal functions, Early childhood experiences and their impact on development, The concept of maturation, The characteristics of the developmental processes, Experimental studies on the role of heredity and environment, Nature-nurture controversy. The role of social and cultural factors in the process of development.

Personality:- The concept of personality, Psychodynamic Perspective, Learning and Social Cognitive perspective, Humanistic and existential perspective, Trait and Cognitive Perspective, The Indian approach to the personality.

Methods of Assessment:- Testing Vs assessment, Definition of test, Characteristics, types of tests, Data collection methods, scales of measurement, reliability and Validity, test construction, tests and decisions.

Intelligence:- Concept and definition of Intelligence, theories of intelligence, Factor theories, Spearman, Thurston, Theories of multiple intelligence, Guilford, Gardner and Steinberg, hierarchical approach, Carroll, PASS model JP Das Cattell & Jenson, Emotional intelligence Goleman.

Learning:- Early and modern theories of learning, Social and Cognitive Theories of Learning, Learning styles.

Motivation and Emotion:- Motivation- need, drive, Theories of motivation, Level of aspiration and achievement motivation. Psychological and physiological basis of motivation and emotion, Measurement of motivation and emotion, Effects of motivation and emotion on behaviour, extrinsic and intrinsic motivation, Factors influencing intrinsic motivation.

Personality, Attitudes Values and Interests:- The concept of personality, Trait and type approaches, Factorial and dimensional approaches, Theories of personality field, Allport, Cattel, Lewin, Social learning theories, The Indian approaches to the study of personality, The concept of Gunas, Measurement of personality, The role of projective tests. Formation of attitudes, Theories of attitudes change, Attitude scales, Values, Motivational Properties of values.

Health Psychology:- Stress and the development of illness, Pain Management, Management of Chronic and Terminal IIIness, Psyhcho-physiological disorders, Psycho-neuro-immunology.

Psycho Pathology:- Schizophrenia and other Psychotic disorders, Mood Disorders, Suicide, Anxiety Disorders, Somatoform disorders, dissociative disorders, sexual disorders, Substance Abuse and personality disorders, Disorders of Child hood and Adolescence.

Forensic Psychology:- Eyewitness Memory, Methods of Lie Detection, The Psychology of Confession, The Psychology of Investigation, Criminological Psychology, Forensic Evaluation in Delinquency Cases, Competence to Confess, Evaluation of Criminal Responsibility, Child Sexual Abuse Evaluations.

Recent Trends:- Psychology and the computer, Cybernatic model of behaviour, Simulation studies in psychology, Altered stats of consciousness-sleep, dream, meditation, hypnotic trance, drug induced changes, Sensory deprivation, Human problems in aviation and in space flight.

Research Methodology and Statistics:- Nature and Methods of psychological research, Advantages and Limitations of various methods and the Statistical studies.

(80 question of 80 marks)

Unit-III

  • Ten (10) questions consisting of General Knowledge pertaining to the state of Himachal Pradesh.
  • Ten (10) questions consisting of General Knowledge of National & International affairs

(20 questions of 20 marks)

The Screening Test (CBT/Offline) will be of 100 marks of two-hour duration.
