Folk Dances of Himachal Pradesh

Himachali or Pahari folk dances are simple dances, and are performed to express joy and happiness among themselves. Folk dances are performed for every possible occasion, to celebrate the arrival of seasons, weddings, festivals, fairs and birth of a child. Men and women perform some dances exclusively, while in some performances men and women dance together. On most of the occasions, the dancers sing themselves, while being accompanied by artists on the instruments.  Each form of dance has a specific costume and skill and the imagination of the dances influence the performance.

There are innumerable folk dances in the heartland of Himachal Pradesh. Among all, Nati is the most popular which is qualified to be called as the Folk Dance of the State. Kiang, Baakyaang, Jhanjhar, are some other famous folk dances of Himachal Pradesh.

Kharait and Ujagjama are martial dances of men of Himachal Pradesh.
