Q. Who was Shri Yashpal?

Ans: Shri Yashpal was a revolutionary who belonged to Village Bhumpal in Distt. Hamirpur.

Q. Where did Shri Yashpal born? 

Ans: Shri Yashpal was born on Dec. 3, 1903, at Ferozepur Cantt. where his mother Premi Devi worked as a teacher in a famous Orphanage. His father Heera Lal was a petty businessman running his small shop.

Q. About the education of Shri Yashpal?

Ans:

  • Shri Yashpal’s mother Premi Devi was influenced by the ideals of Swami Dayanand got him admitted to Gurukul Kangri.
  • But he did not keep fit there and came back to Lahore where he got admission to DAV school.
  • Yashpal stood first in Middle standard examination and passed his matric in 1921 in the first division and stood first in the school.
  • Shri Yashpal did not get admission to Govt. College Lahore and preferred a private college run by Lala Lajpat Rai.

Q. How did Shri Yashpal come in contact with revolutionaries? 

Ans:

  • In college, Shri Yashpal came into contact with Sardar Bhagat Singh, Chandrashekar, and other revolutionaries.
  • Shri Yashpal was made commander of the Hindustani Socialist Democratic Army after the death of Chandrashekhar.
  • On Feb. 23. 1932, the police arrested him in Allahabad and he was sentenced to 14-year rigorous imprisonment.
  • In 1936 he was married to Prakashwati Kapur in Jail.
  • He was released from jail on March 2, 1938.

Q. How did Shri Yashpal become a writer? 

Ans:

  • After spending his jail term, he gave up the path of violence and turned to writing.
  • He started a monthly magazine by the name of, Viplav in Hindi and its Urdu version “Baghi‘ which literally means revolt.
  • He was a great revolutionary, visionary, and writer.
  • He wrote more than a dozen novels and a classical reminiscence ‘SIHMAVLOKEN‘ in three volumes. It is the story of armed revolution against British Govt. by him and his other comrades Bhagat Singh and Chander Shekhar Azad.
  • Besides novels, he wrote about a score of collection of stories, plays, and essays.

Q. When did Shri Yashpal die? 

Ans: Shri Yashpal died on December 26, 1971.

Government Senior Secondary School Bhumpal in District Hamirpur is named after him.
