Himachal Police Training College (PTC), Daroh Adjudged Best by (BPR&D) Govt of India:

  • The Police Training College (PTC), Daroh in Kangra district has been adjudicated as the best training centre in constable category at the national level.
  • The training centre will get a cash award of Rs 20 lakh and a citation from the Union Ministry for Home Affairs.
  • PTC has been adjudicated the best as per the study conducted by the Bureau for Police Research and Development (BPR&D), the government of India.

Target to increase forest cover upto 35 percent:

  • The State government aims to increase forest area from 26 percent to 35 percent in Himachal Pradesh stated byForest Minister Govind Singh Thakur while presiding over a workshop on the project for improvement of Himachal Pradesh Forest Ecosystems Management and Livelihood (JICA funded).
  • Japan International Cooperation Agency (JICA) funded Rs. 800 crores this project will be implemented from 2018 to 2028.
  • The purpose of this project was the management of forest area more efficiently so that forest cover could be increased along with improvement in community livelihood.
  • JICA will be implemented in three stages in six districts of the State viz: Kinnaur, Shimla, Bilaspur, Mandi, Kullu, and Lahaul Spiti.
  • Other scheme is being implemented in the state to bring more land under forest is Van Samridhi, Jan Samridhi  Yojna.

State Planning Board approves Rs. 7100 crore annual plan:

  • The annual plan size of Rs. 7100 crore for the year 2019-20 was approved with an increase of Rs. 800 crore from the last year’s annual plan of Rs. 6300 crore, thereby registering an increase of 12.70 percent.
  • An outlay of Rs. 3048.15 crore has been proposed for the social service sector which is 42.93 percent of the total outlay.
  • Transport and communication sectors are being given the second priority with a proposed outlay of Rs. 1241.98 crore, which is 14.49 percent of the total outlay.
  • Third priority has been accorded to agriculture and allied activities sector with an outlay of Rs.  877.25 crore have been proposed.
  • Rs. 711.06 crore has been proposed for the energy sector, Rs. 457.48 crore for irrigation and flood control and Rs. 335.15 crore for general economic services while Rs. 133.89 crore has been proposed for other general services sector.
  • Rs. 133.65 crore has been proposed for rural development, Rs. 95.59 crore for industries and minerals, Rs. 38.02 crore for science technology and environment and Rs. 27.78 crore for special area programme.
  • Out of the annual plan size of Rs. 7100 crore an outlay of Rs. 1788.49 crore has been provided for Scheduled Castes Sub Plan for the implementation of schemes largely benefiting scheduled caste population.
  • 9 percent funds amounting to Rs. 639 crore have been provided under the Tribal Area Sub Plan which is aimed at the development of the tribal areas of the State.
  • Rs. 80 crore has been allocated for backward area Sub Plan for development of the backward areas of the State.

Himachal working on eradication of malaria by 2020:

  • The state government is laying special emphasis on eradicating malaria from the State by 2020.
  • Malaria prevalence is less in Himachal as compared to other states of the country and presently there are only 98 cases of malaria in the state.
  • Malaria mosquitoes are seen between June to September in districts like Hamirpur, Una, Solan, Kangra, Bilaspur and Mandi.

Governor releases book ‘The Heartfulness Way’:

  • The book has been authored by Kamlesh D. Patel and Joshua Pollock.
  • In this book, Kamlesh D. Patel traces a seekers’ journey as he examines the nature of the spiritual search.
  • Through a series of illuminating conversations between a teacher and a student, he reveals the core principles of the Heartfulness practice and philosophy to Joshua Pollock, a Heartfulness practitioner, and trainer.

The State Cabinet decided to provide 10 percent reservation to the economically weaker sections:

  • The Cabinet decided, in principle, to provide 10 percent reservation to the economically weaker sections of the general category in the services of the State in Class-I, II, III and IV posts.

Compensation scheme for women victims/survivors of sexual assault/other crimes-2018:

  • The State Cabinet decided to implement compensation scheme for women victims/survivors of sexual assault/other crimes-2018 to provide compensation to the women who had suffered loss, injury, as may be, as a result of the offense committed and thus required rehabilitation.
  • Under this scheme, amount of compensation would be provided to the victims under Women Victims Compensation Fund as decided by the State Legal Services Authority or District legal Authority.
  • The compensation to the affected women to be provided ranges between Rs. 2 lakh to Rs. 10 lakh keeping the gravity of crime.

Kotkhai Utsav, Mata Mansa Devi Mela, Lohri Mela declared as District level Fairs:

  • The State Cabinet decided to declare Kotkhai Utsav of Shimla district, Mata Mansa Devi Mela of Dharampur in Solan district, Lohri Mela of Gram Panchayat Piplu in Dharampur of Mandi district as District level Fairs.

The Cabinet decided to constitute the State Compensatory Afforestation Fund Management Authority:

  • The Cabinet decided to constitute the State Compensatory Afforestation Fund Management Authority and creation of Special Fund to be known as State Compensatory Afforestation Fund for compensatory afforestation on degraded forest land/non-forest land and Net Present Value (NPV) of the diverted forest land.
  • The Authority will consist of a governing body to be chaired by the Chief Minister and Steering Committee to be headed by the Chief Secretary and Executive Committee to be chaired by Principal Chief Conservator of Forests as Chairperson ex-officio.

District Good Governance Index (DGGI):

  • The State Cabinet decided to implement District Good Governance Index (DGGI) in all the districts of the State to ensure good governance and evaluate governance trends in every district so that the governance gap if any could be bridged.
